This beautiful 10" x 8 1/2" oblong bowl contains a colorful center of yellow, orange, brown and almond combed glass. The combing occurs in the kiln at temperatures exceeding 1650 degrees Fahrenheit. At those extreme temps it is possible to manipulate the glass using brass rods. The glass was pushed and pulled to create the pattern that you see in the finished bowl.
This bowl has three distinct sections: an almond glass top, a middle made up of 50 glass strips set up on their sides, and an almond glass bottom. The glass strips were pulled into and through the solid colored borders, making it appear as though the colors are 'rising up' out of the base. Reminds me of ghostly halloween spirits rising up out of a pumpkin patch.... your mileage may vary...!
After the combing and subsequent cooling, the glass was once again returned to the kiln to be slumped into a ceramic mold, creating the graceful bowl shape of the final piece. The results are stunning!
